How to Add a Video to Your Shopify Store That Updates Itself

A Shopify store page showing one video that updates when a new video is sent from a phone

The VidUP Player app for Shopify is coming soon. It is not in the Shopify App Store yet, and we will not pretend otherwise. The good news is that you do not have to wait. You can put your VidUP player in your store today with a custom Liquid block, and the part that matters most already works: you update the video from your phone. Open the VidUP app, record, hit Send, and your store shows the new video.

This guide walks through the embed-today method, explains what the Shopify video app will add, and answers the questions we hear most. For the overview of business video and why it should stay current, start there.

What you need

  • A Shopify store and access to the theme editor.
  • A VidUP account. Sign-up gives you a player code.
  • The VidUP app on your phone to record updates.

Add your video to Shopify today

  1. Get your player code. Sign up for VidUP. Your code is in your account.
  2. Open the theme editor. In your Shopify admin, open Online Store, then Themes, then Customize.
  3. Choose the page. Pick the template where the video should appear, such as the home page or a product page.
  4. Add a custom Liquid block. Add a custom Liquid block or section where you want the video. If your theme has no such block, a custom HTML or code section works the same way.
  5. Paste the embed. Paste the iframe below, replacing the placeholder with your own player code:
<iframe src="https://play.vidup.co/<your code>" style="aspect-ratio:16/9;width:100%;border:0" allow="autoplay; fullscreen; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen title="Business video"></iframe>
  1. Save. The video now shows on that page.

That is the last time you touch your theme for a video change.

Update it from your phone

  1. Open the VidUP app.
  2. Record a new video or choose one you already have.
  3. Hit Send.
  4. Check your store. The same block shows the new video.

No re-uploading, no re-embedding, no editing your theme. VidUP is on the App Store for iPhone. On Android, the VidUP web app runs in your phone's browser, and the Google Play app is coming soon.

What the Shopify video app will add

We are working toward a VidUP Player block you add in the theme editor, so setup becomes a paste of your code instead of a snippet. Your player code stays exactly the same, which means embedding today costs you nothing later. When the app is available we will say so on the Shopify video app page.

Why it can update without touching the theme

Your player code identifies your player, not one specific video file. The iframe loads your player from play.vidup.co, and the video it shows is whatever you sent last. You can read how that works on the auto-updating video embed page. VidUP keeps one live video per player, so a new send replaces the previous one. Keep a copy of any clip you may want again.

Where a store video earns its place

  • Home page. A short welcome that says what you sell and who it is for.
  • Product pages. One current video per product page, with a player code of its own if you like.
  • Landing pages for a promotion. Change the video as the offer changes, without re-editing the page.
  • About or contact pages. A human introduction.

Keep each video to one clear message. The free plan records 10-second takes, and VidUP Pro records 60-second takes. Record landscape so the 16:9 player fills cleanly.

Is there a Shopify video app for VidUP?

It is coming soon and is not in the Shopify App Store yet. You can already show your VidUP player with a custom Liquid block, as described above.

Will I need to change anything when the app arrives?

Can I use the same video on several pages?
